Romulus, My Father Romulus Gaita has immigrated to Victoria, Australia from his native Yugoslavia with his beautiful German wife, Christina, and their young son, Raimond, in search of a better life. Here, on a lonely and harsh rural homestead, Romulus cares for his wife and son, making a living as a blacksmith and farm laborer. But the glamorous Christina feels increasingly out of place and depressed in this desolate and foreign land, and struggling with her role as a mother and wife, eventually deserts the family, running off with Romulus’;best friend. Left alone to raise his young son, Romulus struggles against great adversity, doing his best to give Raimond a childhood, while trying to keep Christina in the boy’s life.

Semi-Pro Jackie Moon is one-hit wonder who used the profits from the success of his chart-topping song “Love Me Sexy” to achieve his dream of owning a basketball team.   1. Romulous intrigues me — it seems like at the very least it will be intricate, and since it’s mostly true, probably will be realistic enough to make the intricacies satisfying. And I must know about the bees.

    Comments on the unsettling Penelope thing:
    1. The most enjoyment I garnered from that trailer was in thinking about White Christmas and freckle-faced Hanes the dog-face boy.
    2. Here’s some irony: the name Penelope comes from the Greek “penelops”, which is kind of duck! Apparently the wife-of-Odysseus Penelope hung out with ducks enough that she was named after them.
